As the FC you will head up the day to day financial activities of the company including; preparation of month end accounts, budget variance analysis, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, overseeing the payroll, management of the book debts, internal audits and assistance in the preparation of the year end statutory accounts.

The FC role will implement and maintain all financial controls and systems within the business, identifying and recommending potential operational efficiencies and improvements to working practices and procedures.

Responsibilities to include:

  1. Lead and participate in the financial operations of the company including reporting, forecasting, invoicing and cash management, accounts payable/receivable and payroll
  2. Lead and participate in the monthly management accounts ensuring timely, accurate and complete information is available (P&L and Balance Sheet)
  3. Report on variances to the relevant managers and Directors
  4. Recommend changes that will improve the company’s financial performance
  5. Benchmark data against internal and external information
  6. Consolidation of month end accounts
  7. Ensure the ERP system is accurate and up to date including the chart of accounts
  8. Design usable reports within the ERP system making full use of the Business Intelligence modules and automating as much of the periodic reporting as possible.
  9. Oversee the preparation of month end payroll processes ensuring staff are paid on time with minimal errors and compliance with HMRC deadlines for NI/PAYE
  10. Overseeing pension requirements to allow deadlines to be met
  11. Prepare and submit information to statutory authorities including HMRC
  12. Ensure compliance with regards to VAT returns and Corporation Tax
  13. Liaise with the external auditors on the preparation of statutory financial information
  14. Cashflow forecasting
  15. Manage insurance claims
  16. Review company internal controls
  17. Assistance in the annual budget setting process
  18. Management of the Finance team (6 direct reports) with regards to managing workloads, annual objective setting exercises and personal development reviews.
  19. Coaching, developing and mentoring team members to allow them to achieve their full potential
  20. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  21. Develop systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the company’s finances
  22. Support the implementation of new processes, controls and systems into the divisions
  23. Ensure accounting policies comply with the relevant accounting standards
  24. Ad hoc tasks to meet the needs of the business

Skills/Attributes required

  1. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  2. A minimum of five years PQE
  3. Excellent Excel skills
  4. A minimum of three years experience using an ERP system
  5. Good communication skills
  6. Hands on approach and proven ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  7. A minimum of three years experience of managing a team in a dynamic environment
  8. The ability to think outside the box
  9. A team player
  10. Interpersonal skills sufficient to advise managers/clinicians of differing financial understandings
  11. Good analytical skills
  12. Strong technical accounting skills
  13. Full UK driving license and willing to travel to company sites across the UK for meetings as required

Skills/Attributes desired but not essential

  1. Experience of using Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP system
  2. An understanding of Sage payroll
  3. Knowledge of company accounts production
